Legacy Structures has a dynamic team of talented structural engineers and draughtsmen based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
We have an excellent understanding of the New Zealand construction landscape, and bring a wealth of knowledge around domestic construction materials, local supply chain pinch-points and constructability limitations that could dictate structural form.

We thrive in a team based environment and know that good clear communication and collaboration is critical to the success of any project. Our meticulous documentation procedures through the design process save an exponential amount of time and effort through the construction phase.
Our team is bolstered, when required, by several contract engineers and draughtsmen with whom we have good, reliable relationships. We pride ourselves in having one of our senior staff as the main point of contact on all of our projects.
Our network through other project partners and engineering disciplines means that we have access to additional expertise should the project require. These strong relationships also mean we have a developed and well-rounded understanding of a project and are conscious of the impact our design has on other disciplines involved.
3D Modelling
Legacy Structures are experienced and proficient users of Autodesk Revit. Revit allows for consistent and coordinated Building Information Modelling (BIM) across all parties involved with the design and construction of buildings, from concept design through to construction.
In addition to the major coordination benefits of using Revit, the 3D modelling of the building structure reduces errors and aids design through better visualisation of structural elements. We have invested time to customise and create structural model components to suit New Zealand construction and to speed up documentation. It also offers benefits through the lifecycle of the building with operations and maintenance. We work with our clients and project teams to determine the most effective use of our modelling systems to suit their needs.
Sustainable design
Legacy Structures recognises the importance of sustainable building practices in New Zealand. We integrate an approach that considers the entire building lifecycle, from material selection and energy efficiency to waste reduction and long-term durability.
We utilise local, low-carbon materials where possible and are experts in designing for our unique climate and seismic environment. Our team stays up-to-date with the latest green building technologies and can help you achieve your sustainability goals. Whether it is targeting specific green building certifications or simply aiming for a more environmentally responsible structure.
By providing early input into material selection, we can help reduce the embodied carbon footprint of the structural component. Our modelling software also enables us to determine material quantities to aid in carbon quantification and Green Star application.
